At m
y the family dinner my grandmother asked me “Your car is stick, right?” shocking with her dimetia she remembered that. To that I replied yup. Then she asked if she could sit in it & go through the gears. She has no driven for a few years due to age & memory issues.
She was due hard manual till the day she quit driving. Of course she could go through the gears in it. So I walked her to my car. She sat in the passenger side as I held the clutch in & she went through the gears. Her face lit up with the biggest smile. That’s all she wanted to do, even when I offered to take her for a drive & she could change the gears. She just wanted to sit in it & change the gears. Cherish your old folks people. No photos
since I was in moment.
Happy thanksgiving.

In our FB’d and IG’d lives, some things don’t need photos. This special
moment in life
will be yours alone.

What a wonderful moment. Visited my wife’s grandma this summer who is in the late stages of Alzheimer’s. Was at a family bbq, and she lit up and started talking baseball when an old friend mentioned the Tigers. It was like she opened up a locked box that she had lost the key to.

I scared myself silly launching and running my 335 through a couple of gears tonight. So glad I got to experience manual transmissions in my lifetime. May we all be like your grandma

The long term memory is funny. She goes to one program that targets the long term memory. Any time she remembers a glimpse of something that’s short term memory after a day(or a few hours) it’ s a big deal.

Would have been simultaneously hilarious and terrifying if she had meant top out all the gears. Just imagining grandma bouncing the juke off the rev limiter in 6th, flying down a public road.

That’s such a great story, definitely cherish your time while you can, my grandma had been going through that too and then seemed pretty clear- headed for the holidays the year before last so it was really nice but unfortunately we lost her a few months later, it was pretty rough.
